About K-On!

K-On! is a Japanese four-panel manga series written and illustrated by Kakifly, originally serialized in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara magazine from 2007 to 2010, with a sequel run continuing through 2012. The story follows Yui Hirasawa, a carefree high school girl who joins her school's light music club to save it from being disbanded — despite never having played an instrument before. Together with bassist Mio Akiyama, drummer Ritsu Tainaka, keyboardist Tsumugi Kotobuki, and later kouhai guitarist Azusa Nakano, the girls form the band Ho-kago Tea Time and balance music practice with cake, tea, and high school life. The anime adaptation by Kyoto Animation premiered in 2009, with the second season K-On!! in 2010 and a theatrical film in 2011. K-On! is widely credited with popularizing the modern slice-of-life "cute girls doing cute things" anime genre and remains a foundational title for collectors more than a decade after its release.
